The Toothpaste Origin

 In News

Brushing without toothpaste is like taking a bath without soap! Toothpaste its an essential component to brushing your teeth. Toothpaste should be used daily (or at least twice a day). Although billions of people around the world use toothpaste every day, have you ever wondered how this product came to be an important part of our dental hygiene?

It might surprise you that toothpaste is not a modern invention but a primitive creation used by early civilizations thousands of decades ago. Let me walk you through the ancient origin of toothpaste.

Egyptians created the world’s first toothpaste formula. Around 5000 to 3000 BC, they invented tooth powder by crushing pumice, ash, myrrh, and eggshells. Despite the fact that the toothbrush had not been made at that time, the tooth powder was used by Egyptians to clean their teeth.

In the eastern part of the world particularly in China, toothpaste was invented to have a flavor by adding herbal mints and ginseng to freshen their breath, while Indians used seeds such as cardamom, fennel, and star anise to create their version of flavored toothpaste.

Back in the western side of the planet, the Greek and Romans made toothpaste from mixing honey and vinegar, or from radish and powdered glass. Others even used ground deer antlers, oyster shells and crushed bones to remove the debris from their teeth and gums.

It was not until the 1800s that modern toothpaste was developed. The most recent toothpaste inventions include whitening substances, Fluoride, and Triclosan, which help protect teeth from cavities, decay, and other dental problems.

Today, you have the option to choose the toothpaste that you want. Toothpaste comes in different flavours, scents, and unique ingredients.
